The Problem: 

Seniors can find it difficult and frustrating to interface with technology.

A Solution:

I wanted to re-engineer the technology to suit seniors. I began to design a custom, easy-to-use application using MIT App Inventor and Android Studio to enable seniors to access communication platforms (ex. Gmail).

Prototyping:

I designed my interface with big buttons for Read-Write functions, pictures of loved ones instead of names and a voice API to send recorded messages. I started taking my prototypes to test with seniors at the centre. I talked with them for hours to understand their personal needs and tried to show how technology could help. As I showed them my prototypes, seniors began to give me feedback and became more open to using the tools.
